A handful of us stepped up to continue development of Darkest Hour, and we have grown to about a dozen people who are working on the team. We were told that 1.9 would be the last update unless help arrived to develop it. It was a half-baked, buggy mess of an update. Then on December 31st, 2018 Darkest Hour 1.9 came out.
Through much of 20 KRDH lay dormant, without much of a dev team working on it, and it seemed like Darkest Hour was going to lose its flagship mod forever. The mod team received many new recruits, and eventually the torch was passed so as not to hold back the development of KR4. When Hearts of Iron 4 released, an attempt was made to port the mod over that went very well.
Kaiserreich continued under the development of Darkest Hour for many years, skipping Hearts of Iron 3 entirely because modding for it was too difficult. Thus was born Kaiserreich 1.0 for Hearts of Iron 2.
The creators of that mod decided to rework their concept into an entirely alternate history mod based around how to make the set up for All The Russia’s more realistic. Much of the content for Russia as it currently exists in KR can be directly traced back to All The Russias, including Transamur and the Don-Kuban Cossacks, as well as the murder of Kerensky. Indeed Kaiserreich started as a different mod for Hearts of Iron 2 called All The Russias, a mod where the White Russian forces won the civil war. We just patched all of the bugs we could find, including events firing super quickly, so 1.9.1 is even better!Īfter the rather explosive show of support, interest, and confusion when we released the 1.9.1 update back on Christmas, I felt it would be a good idea to do one dev diary to explain several things and provide some general guidance as to the goals of the KRDH team.įor the unfamiliar, Kaiserreich’s history goes far beyond Hearts of Iron 4. I am ProjectLuster/Colwin1/Eberronguy, one of the people who is working on the Kaiserreich for Darkest Hour. Welcome one and all to the first official Dev Diary for Kaiserreich for Darkest Hour!
